Jeffries Dev Blog Post - Week 1

Technically this is a dev blog post that encompasses two weeks, but for the sake of simplification it will be labeled as the first week of development.

This week, development started in full swing! We’ve brainstormed story elements, made concepts for art and game play, and began implementing basic code and UI screens.

At this stage, all UI should be fully functional, including things like the title screen and settings screen.

In terms of art, we began the concept of our game’s antagonist- Bezel! He’s a little robotic fellow left in an abandoned arcade. All concept art was handled by Kaya Pictured below is the concept art that was decided upon for the final design.

After the concept art was finished, it was my time to shine as this project’s dedicated character modeler. I got cracking on translating the design to 3D, and before long had our evil little robot in my Blender view port.

My last job of the week was to set up a control rig for the animators of the project to be able to easily create animations. I moved over to Maya and got all the necessary controls and articulations set up.

With the groundwork of our character and basic coding being laid, we’ve got a great start towards making our unsettling arcade come to life!
